Because it looks like a Jag XJ.
These spy shots, taken by Automobile magazine's photographers, depict Buick's new large sedan. Yeah, yeah, I know, it's FWD (unlike the Jag) but it has that "four-door coupe" profile which drives people so crazy these days. Compare the XJ, also in cladding for ease of comparison:
Not that different in terms of profile, right?

Incidentally, I'm pretty sure this recent What the Hell is This? is the '17 LaCrosse.

I don't really blame you for not being excited for a FWD Buick boat, but if it looks as nice without the tarp, I'll be happy. Plus, I'm really hoping they'll make a larger sedan off the Omega platform that's going under the Cadillac CT6.
All photos belong to their respective owners (not me).

I hate the LaCrosse name. Why not La Sabre or Park Avenue, or Electra, or Invicta?
sm70- why not Duesenberg?

The fact that it's front wheel drive and a Buick makes it impossible to be even a little bit exciting.

They do. The old ones look fantastic. The current gen is bad.

Not the first time a larger Buick has been compared to Jaguar. I still think Buick could do with a proper full-size flagship, like the one they sell in China.

For all intents and purposes the Lacrosse replaced the Le Sabre. I do wish they'd go back to using LeSabre seeing as it's *one of their longest-running marquees*

I'm fairly confident they'll make one off the CT6 platform.

It's just that they have a RWD platform for this, so why go FWD? Use the damn Alpha platform, guys! Screw the Epsilon II!

Like I said, we gotta make the best of it. Who knows why these automotive giants make these decisions, but they know more about it than we do so financially they're almost definitely doing the right thing. I can see the spread of RWD architecture in the future, though, especially with all the rumors of an Omega-based Buick.

I think they do FWD because people think it's safer and peoples' thoughts are what drive sales, not spec sheets.

If they went with what people thought was safer, they'd make it all AWD. (maybe that's just a Pacific Northwest thing?)

No, because that has a hugely negative impact in fuel economy and cost of manufacture.
Markets are as much about how the system got to where it is as much as they are about how they are now. FWD became bigger first because it increased usable interior volume without increasing the overall size of the vehicle. Then came the safety.
I just wonder how much weight the FWD advantages really hold, because the benchmark cars are all RWD.

the RWD should return...FWD is not pulling it off as a flagship anymore Buck flagships have been FWD for 30 years now and the Omega can be fuel efficient.

Put a RWD Omega above the Lacrosse....what about a Roadmaster ....Lacrosse doesn't sound like a flagship,

The Lacrosse rides on the same platform as the Malibu for crying out loud and they both look alike.
